Dao Tan Prize honours people who love traditional culture

On November 11, for the first time, the prize named of culturist Dao Tan, will be awarded for people who have contribution on finding and preserving Vietnamese culture in Hanoi.

On November 11, for the first time, the prize named of culturist Dao Tan, will be awarded for people who have contribution on finding and preserving Vietnamese culture in Hanoi.

 

Vietnam has some prizes for traditional arts as Tuong (Vietnamese Classical Drama), Cheo (Traditional Operetta), Cai Luong (Reformed Theatre) and Ca tru (a kind of folk song), but Dao Tan is the first prize that will be awarded for people, who either Vietnamese or foreigners but have great contribution for preserving Vietnamese culture.

 

Dao Tan prize is awarded every two year, aiming to create a prestigious prize on Vietnam traditional culture, and honour both of culturist Dao Tan and his prize winners.

 

In fact, Dao Tan Prize was found by the Stage Institute since 1995. At first, it was awarded for people who live in Dao Tan’s homeland and directly develop his heritage. Then the prize was expanded for all people who contributed to preserve and develop Dao Tan’s heritage in nationwide.

 

This year, Dao Tan will be awarded for seven groups and individuals whose great contribution for Vietnamese traditional culture.

 

Winners this time will include Prof Tran Van Khe, who has introduced Vietnam’s ethnomusicology to the world; music teacher Nguyen Vinh Bao, a prestigious ethnomusicologist, who spent over 70 years train teachers for HCM City Conservatory; HCM City Tuong Theatre, where keep researching and developing Dao Tan’s Tuong theory; writer Duong Trong Dat, Editor-in-Chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, poet Nguyen The Ky, deputy director of Centre for traditional culture research, preservation and development, who have done many projects on traditional culture; Dr Thai Kim Lan, researcher, teacher on Vietnamese culture in Germany; and Vo Thanh Tan, director of Thanh Nghia Company.
