Four outstanding scientific researches with high applicability were honoured with the Tran Dai Nghia Award by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) at a ceremony in Hanoi on May 17.
The winners include a research on building the technological process for producing A/H5N1 avian influenza vaccine in Vietnam. It was conducted by a group of authors from the VAST’s Institute of Biotechnology and the National Veterinary JSC.
The study on special materials serving the production of combat support equipment for soldiers was carried out by authors from the VAST’s Centre for High Technology Development and Institute of Materials Science, and the department for equipment and logistics under the Ministry of Public Security.
Another winning research developed technology for treating hazardous industrial and medical waste. It was carried out by researchers from the VAST’s Institute of Environmental Technology and the Vietnam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Meanwhile, a scientist from the Mekong Delta research institute for hi-tech agriculture succeeded in creating salinity-tolerant rice varieties with high productivity and quality.
Congratulating the winners, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said the Tran Dai Nghia Award recognises scientists’ enthusiasm and dedication to national development.
Meanwhile, VAST President Chau Van Minh, who also chairs the award council, said the VAST presents the Tran Dai Nghia Award every three years with a view to encouraging Vietnamese scientists to make greater efforts to do research and apply research outcomes, thus contributing to national development and security-defence ensuring.
The award was first presented in 2016.
Prof. Tran Dai Nghia (1913-1997), whose real name was Pham Quang Le. He was a big name in the field of weapons manufacturing in Vietnam. His name is associated with famous weapons used in the country’s resistance wars, such as bazooka bullets, SKZ guns and flying bombs.
