Eleven teams will represent Viet Nam at the World Robot OlympiadTM (WRO) 2017 along with participants from 60 other countries at the event, to be held in Costa Rica on November 10-12.
A three-student team demonstrated their robot’s performances at the Le Hong Phong High School in HCM City on October 24.
The annoucement was made at the Le Hong Phong High School in HCM City’s District 5 yesterday.
The outstanding Vietnamese teams include four winning teams in four categories who participated in the annual Robotacon 2017 competition in late August..
Launched in 2004, WRO aims to bring together young people from around the world to develop their creativity and problem-solving skills in challenging and educational robot contests.
Under the theme “Sustainabots: Robots for Sustainability”, participating teams need to design, build and programme a robot model capable of performing a challenge or demonstrate a solution to a real-life problem.
The WRO offers challenge to teams of two-or-three of different ages, from aged 6 to 25.
It has four competition categories, including Regular Category, Open Category, WRO Football, and Advanced Robotics Challenge.
Nguyen Van Hieu, deputy director of the city’s Deapartment of Education And Training, praised the teams’ acheivements and wished them good luck at the international competition this year.
At the event, the teams showed their robot performances and benefits to the community.
Of them, a robot helped balance carbon dioxide levels in industrial areas for more environmentally friendly energy sources.
Another robot can promote sustainable tourism and help scientists and visitors explore the wonders of nature without harming it.
Last year, Viet Nam broke through the worldwide competition to score third place in the Elementary Challenge category.
