Thong Nhat: Enhancing the quality and effectiveness of supervision and social criticism

On the morning of September 27, the 1st Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) of Thong Nhat commune, for the 2025-2030 term, took place. Attending the congress were Nguyen Tan Phu, Vice Chairman of the VFF Committee of Dong Nai province; the Standing Committee of the Commune Party Committee and People's Council of the commune; together with 180 official delegates representing all walks of life in the commune.

In recent years, the VFF of Thong Nhat commune and its member organizations have effectively carried out patriotic emulation movements and public campaigns; they have closely followed the people’s sentiments and aspirations to provide timely encouragement and support, thereby reinforcing the bond between the people, the Party, and the State. These efforts have helped promote the strength of the great national unity bloc and contributed to the successful fulfillment of local socio-economic development, national defense, and security tasks.

Through patriotic emulation movements, the VFF of Thong Nhat commune mobilized residents to contribute more than 1,200 workdays to build, repair, and upgrade 42 rural roads with a total length of nearly 40 kilometers; repair inter-field roads, main and inter-commune routes, concrete roads, and maintain and repair canals and ditches. It coordinated efforts to raise over 500 million VND for the Fund for the Poor, supporting the construction of 32 charity houses with a total cost of 3 billion VND. The commune also mobilized benefactors from inside and outside the province to distribute 5,000 gift packages to disadvantaged households, with a total value of more than 1.5 billion VND. Under the emulation movement “Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in 2025,” the VFF of Thong Nhat commune proposed support for 24 households to build charity houses and 6 households to repair existing homes, with a total budget of 2.1 billion VND.

With the spirit of “Solidarity - Democracy - Innovation - Responsibility,” the congress elected 52 members (with 5 vacant seats) to the first-term Committee of the VFF of Thong Nhat commune. Nguyen Thi Thanh Le was elected Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Thong Nhat commune for the 2025-2030 term.

In his directive speech at the congress, Vice Chairman of the VFF Committee of Dong Nai province Nguyen Tan Phu suggested that the commune’s VFF continue to strongly innovate the content and methods of propaganda and mobilization, considering this a breakthrough task to build and consolidate the great national unity bloc in the new context. He emphasized improving the quality and effectiveness of supervision and social criticism work, truly serving as the “eyes and ears” of the people and as an important information channel to assist Party committees and authorities in leadership and administration. He also called for arousing and promoting the spirit of creativity and self-governance among the people, bringing patriotic emulation movements into greater depth. There is a need to continue ensuring social welfare, taking care of the poor and policy families. Attention will also be given to developing the organizational apparatus and the contingent of Front cadres at all levels in the direction of "streamlined, effective and efficient operations".
