Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh paid a visit to Samdech Sar Kheng, Acting Prime Minister of Cambodia, in Phnom Penh on March 14.
Minh is in Phnom Penh for the 15th meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Culture and Scientific and Technological Cooperation and the 9th Conference on cooperation and development of Vietnamese and Cambodian border localities.
The leaders agreed that the two events, taking place at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties (June 24, 1967), will contribute to cementing and fostering the traditional friendship and neighbourliness.
Minh stressed that activities marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties will make people of all walks of life, especially young ones, have a correct understanding of the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries so to preserve and foster them.
He expressed his hope that the Joint Committee and the Conference will enable ministries, sectors and localities to meet and seek appropriate measures to accelerate the countries’ ties across sectors, in particular economics.
The two sides spoke highly of the important role of the Joint Committee and the Conference in stepping up multi-dimensional cooperation between the two countries.
Acting Prime Minister Samdech Sar Kheng affirmed that he will instruct ministries, sectors and localities to continue working closely with the Vietnamese sides to deploy agreed cooperative contents for more productive cooperation in the future.
On the occasion, Deputy PM Minh suggested Acting Prime Minister Samdech Sar Kheng pay more heed to directing the land border demarcation and border marker planting so the work will soon be completed and the shared border will serve development.
He also proposed the Cambodian Government to make it easier for Vietnamese businesses currently doing business in the country as well as Overseas Vietnamese securing a stable life in the host country.
Acting Prime Minister Samdech Sar Kheng assured that he will instruct relevant agencies to work with Vietnamese partners to help Overseas Vietnamese settle stably and children of Vietnamese origin attend school in Cambodia.
On the day, Minh visited the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia.
