Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has praised Japan’s Asahi Shimbun newspaper as an important channel to promote Vietnam to the outside world as a hospitable and peace and justice-loving country.

At a reception for the newspaper’s President Masataka Watanabe in Hanoi on February 4, Dam called the Asahi Shimbun an important bridge linking Vietnam and Japan and expressed his hope that the newspaper will help Japanese and international readers understand more Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and contributions to the world’s development.

Dam highlighted the upcoming official visit to Vietnam by the Japanese Emperor and Empress and a scheduled visit to Japan by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

He said the trips will help intensify exchanges at all levels, thus creating a sustainable foundation for bilateral relations.

President Watanabe in turn said that Asahi Shimbun always wants to contribute to friendship and cooperation between Japan and Vietnam.

Over 138 years of development, Asahi Shimbun has extended its reach beyond the Japanese border to many countries around the world with quality and up-to-date stories, he told his host.

The Asahi Shimbun is one of the five national newspapers in Japan.
