Japan wants to step up multi-dimensional cooperation with Vietnam, including in defence, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio told Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh in Hanoi on November 22.
He stated his country will continue maintaining cooperation with Vietnam in peacekeeping missions and between the law enforcement forces at sea as well as increasing exchanges between young officers.
General Vinh spoke highly of the growing friendship between the two countries, saying the bilateral defence ties have been unceasingly developed efficiently and practically.
He stressed that security and defence cooperation is one of the important pillars of the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in the region.
He expected that Japan will press ahead with partnership with Vietnam in handling unexploded bombs, mines, and explosives, treating dioxin-contaminated areas, personnel training, and technology.
