(ĐN)- A delegation from Dong Nai provincial Fatherland Front Committee visited and presented gifts to monks at Thai Hoa Pagoda in Dinh Quan district and Hoa Son Pagoda in Long Khanh town on the occasion of ethnic Khmer’s New Year festival, the Chol Chnam Thmay.

On behalf of the delegation, Vice Chairman Le Dinh Thao of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee extended greetings to the monks and local Khmer people, wishing them a happy festive season.

He also hoped that the Buddhist monks will continue their further efforts to promote the strength of national great unity, actively popularize the Party, State policies and laws to local ethnic Khmer people, encourage them in building cultural living lifestyle, to be more active in labor and production, contributing to help Khmer ethnic minority people escape poverty and stabilize their lives.

Chol Chnam Thmay, taking place from April 14-16 this year, is one of the most important festivals for the Khmer people. It lasts three days (four days in leap years) and is traditionally held in a pagoda.

The festival is a demonstration of Khmer people’s aspirations, like many other ethnic groups, to move on from the previous year’s misfortunes and look forward to the promise of a new year.
