Meeting US Senator and ranking member of the US Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Bob Corker in Hanoi on August 4, Deputy Minister Khanh stressed that Vietnam always pays special attention to the maintenance of a peaceful environment for the country’s development.

On issues related to the East Sea, he reiterated Vietnam’s consistent stance of settling all disputes through peaceful measures in respect for international law.

For his part, Corker noted with pleasure that in recent years, the Vietnam-US ties have enjoyed new progresses, especially in economic co-operation.

The two sides are also speeding up negotiations for the signing of a Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, he said. He added that the US is considering the removal of a ban on anti-personnel weapon trading with Vietnam.

According to the US official, the strengthening of all-round ties between the two nations will contribute to promoting peace and stability in the region and the world.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral partnership after the US lifts the ban as well as ways to foster co-operation in various areas to consolidate peace in the Asia-Pacific region.
