Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of Long Thanh district People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang Trinh said that the district will diversify communication drives to raise both employers and employees’ awareness on labour safety and sanitation. These drives would focus on private, small and medium-sized businesses as well as on the sectors with a high potential of risks, including construction and chemical.
According to the district’s report, a case of food poisoning with 50 infected persons, a workplace accident occurred in Long Thanh in 2010, killing one worker and injuring one other.
Regarding fires and explosion, the district reported that there were 9 fires and explosion, causing an estimated loss of VND144 billion in property.
To implement the national programme on labour safety and sanitation and fire prevention in 2011, Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs cooperated with Dong Nai Police Department and related agencies to look into labour and fire safety at Dong Nai Paint Co., Phuong Nam Corrugated Iron Co., Fashion Garments, etc.
The province also established six interdisciplinary inspection teams to conduct safety checks at 70 businesses in the province.
This year’s national week will focus on labour safety which in long term will bring prosperity for every household and sustainable development for businesses.
