Dong Nai’s efforts to speed up poverty reduction work

(ĐN)- A meeting was held on February 18 to review the implementation of poverty reduction work in 2006-2010 period and outline the province’s target program on poverty reduction in 2011-2015. The meeting was attended by Head of Dong Nai provincial Department of Propaganda and Training Huynh Van Toi.

Over the past five years, around 54,485 households in the province have escaped poverty, reaching 141.5 percent of the set target, reducing the rate of poor households to 2.93 percent in 2010.

In 2011-2015, the province will strive to bring the rate of poverty among households by 1.5 percent per year and minimize the number of families falling back into poverty, continue to improve the living standard of the poor, ensure remote and mountainous areas have access to basic infrastructure such as electricity, water, telephone, transport and health care, etc.

Vice Chairwoman Huynh Thi Nga awards certificates of merit to households for their efforts to escape poverty.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga highly appreciated efforts made by the province’s authorities and people to help the poor. She stressed that the province should to build the plan for sustainable poverty alleviation program, gradually narrow the gap between the rich and the poor in the locality in the coming time.

Particularly, the province needs to provide further supports for local poor households, speed up the implementation of poverty reduction work, offer preferential loans to poor households for production development, step up the development of farm economy, organize short-term vocational training courses.
