(ĐN)- The area under sugarcane cultivation in Dong Nai province has expanded to nearly 4,000 hectares in the 2010-2011crop, an increase of about 600 hectares from the same period last year. The increase in the area under sugarcane in the province is due to high sugarcane price. Many farmers in Dong Nai have shifted to sugarcane cultivation because of its high economic value. The localities with the largest areas under cane are districts of Dinh Quan, Tan Phu and Cam My.
At present, the price of sugarcane in Dong Nai stays at VND 1 million per tonne. With this price, local farmers can get a profit of over VND 30 million every hectare of sugarcane after the production cost is deducted.
