(ĐN)- Late last week, Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga chaired a workshop on solutions for supplying safe food products to customers at markets. The event attracted the participation of representatives of Vietnamese food experts, food enterprises, the market management boards and local relevant agencies.

More than 10 papers were presented at the workshop, showing unquarantined poultry slaughtering and trade existing in the province without the supervision of veterinary workers and unquarantined poultry products being available in local markets. Currently, there are 230 licensed slaughterhouses around the province but only the largest ones can meet food safety and environmental hygiene standards. About 50 per cent of the meat sold in the province’s markets come from illegal slaughterhouses.
Everyone at the Workshop agreed that it is essential to establish close co-operation between veterinary workers and local authorities to deal with the problem, to speed up information campaigns and food safety education and hygiene standards for animal breeders, to increase inspection of the slaughtering and trade of poultry to ensure food safety for local consumers as well as to put strict punishment on any violations of fowl slaughter and transport regulations.
