The theme this year is “Travel together for the victory drums”, inspired by Japan’s Kago palanquin procession rituals which involved carrying of a basket suspended from a wooden pole, known in Vietnam as a Shoulder Pole. In the event two robots have to carry a Kago through barricades. To win, the robot sitting on the palanquin must beat the drum three times.

Vietnam ROBOCON 2009 is organised by Vietnam Television (VTV) and sponsored by the Toyota Motor Vietnam Co.

The contest will conclude on May 17. In the final the champion will be awarded with VND 40 million prize money and represent the country at the Asia-Pacific Robocon 2009 in Japan in August.

First appearing in 2003, ROBOCON has become an annual contest for students in the field of technology from every university and college in the Asia-Pacific region.
