(ĐN)- Mr. Nguyen Thanh Bien, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade recently led a working delegation to visit Dong Nai province. The working delegation met with Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Dinh Quoc Thai and local export companies. At the meeting, export companies raised the difficulties they are facing as a result of the economic recession such as export orders decline, excessive inventories, curtailment of markets … They also made sugesstions to the working delegation on extension of period for the interest rate subsidy programme, providing the interest rate subsidy for loans used for purchasing local sourced materials for making products for export, information on markets to be provided by overseas Vietnamese commercial counsellors….

This year, Dong Nai posted its first trade surplus in recent history, but leaders of the Provincial Department of Industry and Trade said they were more worried than pleased. The province spent over 1 billion dollars on imports, down 42 per cent from the same period last year, while earning more than 1.1 billion dollars from exports, representing a 14 per cent decrease over the same period last year primarily due to a decrease in the volume and export price of rubber, cashew nuts, coffee, refined wood products, hand-made pottery…. Leaders of the Provincial Department of Industry and Trade also said the volume and value of imports dropped sharply, including those of raw materials and equipment for local production and the drop in materials and equipment imports has adversely influenced local production.
