More than 550,000 students in Dong Nai to begin new school year tomorrow

(ĐN)- More than 550,000 students throughout the province will start the new school-year tomorrow, September 5. 

According to information from the provincial Department of Education and Training, the total number of schools, from preschool to senior high school, in Dong Nai is 758 compared to 747 in last school year. The figure includes 235 infant schools, 301 primary schools, 168 junior high schools and 44 secondary high schools. In addition, 2 new centers for continuing education are put into operation.

The number of enrolled students in each education level in the province in the school year of 2008-2009 is as follows: Preschools: 99,076, primary schools: 196,540, junior high schools 165,603, senior high schools 85,342. Besides, centers for continuing education will enroll 15,903 students in this school year.

In the new school year, 16 new schools and 237 new classrooms have been built to serve an increasing number of students.

To mark the occasion, the Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, and the Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Nai province sent a letter to teachers and students, urging the education sector of the province to promote the application of IT in both teaching and learning, reform the existing financial structure and implement the campaign "Friendly school, active students" launched by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Yesterday was also the starting day of a new school year for students in some non-public schools in Dong Nai. About 2,100 students of Truong Vinh Ky private high school in Long Khanh townlet attended the new school year opening ceremony. In the 2008-2009 school year, the school welcomes 910 students for the 10th grade. On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tai, Chairman of the management board of Lac Hong University awarded 3 scholarships worth VND500,000 each to outstanding poor students and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Lan, Director of the province’s Department of External Relations offered a scholarship worth VND1 million to a poor student. The new school year opening ceremony was also held in Vo Truong Toan High School in Cam My district. The total number of enrolled students in the school in the 2008-2009 school year is 1,464, 79 students higher than last school year. At the ceremony, the school commended its former students who were admitted into universities and they were given scholarships.
