Could polluted water in Thi Vai River cause corrosion of ships hulls?

(ĐN)- Recently, some Japanese cargo ships refused to dock at a Go Dau port, fearing the polluted water would corrode their hulls. Accordingly, Head of the Environment Protection Sub-department Hoang Van Thong had a meeting with representatives of enterprises and Go Dau Port concerning the phenomenon of corrosion of ships hulls in Thi Vai River on August 6.

Accordingly, on August 6, Head of the Environment Protection Sub-department Hoang Van Thong had a meeting with representatives of enterprises and Go Dau Port on the phenomenon of corrosion of ships hulls in Thi Vai River.

 

According to the report, Thi Vai river has had phenomenon of organic pollution in the water surface, sign of heavy metal-poisoning, mud at the bottom of river containing a lot of metal; but can not conclude that it is the cause of the corrosion phenomena.

 

In the coming time, the provincial People’s Committee will report to Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and related agencies for guidelines.
