(ĐN)- A tree-planting campaign in commemoration of President Ho Chi Minh who initiated the annual movement in the spring of 1960 has been recently launched in Vinh Cuu district by the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee. Le Hong Phuong, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Ao Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, representatives from local departments and agencies and a lot of people from Ma Da village, Vinh Cuu district attended the launching cermony.
On the occasion, about 1,000 trees for timber were planted, covering an area of over 2 hectares in the 137 sub-area of Vinh Cuu Nature Preserve located nearby Ma Da village, Vinh Cuu district.
Vinh Cuu district has the largest natural forest in Dong Nai with an area of approximately 59,596 hectares. The district in 2007 planted 194.6 hectares of concentrated forests and 8,960 trees, bringing Dong Nai’s forest coverage to its current 46,399 hectares. The province aims to increase its forest coverage from 26.49% to 27.5% by the end of 2008.
