Ha Noi-based Nguyen Vinh Son topped 15 competitors and won first prize at Mobile Labs 2007 on Tuesday with a PPC Communication product.

Organised by FPT Group and Viet Nam Television, the contest compared mobile phone games and software. Mobile Labs’ jurors chose the best products based on the following criteria: creativity, simplicity, technology, feel, appearance, the quality of user documents and the number of users who tried the product.

PPC Communication produces mobile phone and messaging management software and took first prize for the satisfaction mobile phone users received from it. In particular, users responded positively to the phone’s message protection, automatic messaging, call recording, call refusals, voicemail and SMS service creation.

"What makes Mobile Labs 2007 notable is the creativity and professionalism of the products, which apply state-of-the-art global technology in mobile production," said Le Truong Tung, chairman of the HCM City Informatics Association.

Of 15 final products, eight were games and seven were applications. Most of them used Java J2ME MIDP 2.0 and Windows Mobile 2005 operating systems, which are very popular for smartphones and Pocket PCs in Viet Nam.

The VietMedic medical dictionary by HCM City-based Nguyen Quoc Tuan took second prize. Dong Nai-based Vo Trong Hai’s idea to charge mobile phones through motion, (for example, by shaking one’s wrist), won the Best Idea award.

"The awards are not only to honour the winners, but also to develop the creativity and enthusiasm of the young generation and their love of telecom and IT," said Hoang Minh Chau vice general director of FPT Group.
