Japan ’s Mitsubishi company has announced plans to produce commercial aircraft components in Viet Nam beginning in 2009.

Mitsubishi’s Heavy Industries (MHI) plans to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary MHI Aerospace Viet Nam (MHIVA) in Viet Nam in January 2008.

The 7-million-USD MHIVA will begin making Boeing 737 aircraft flaps in the spring of 2009 with support from the United States Boeing company.

The MHI said it will be "the first manufacturer in the world to locate its aircraft-related production facility in Viet Nam ."

To be located at Thang Long Industrial Park, situated about 16km north-west of Ha Noi, the company plans to start with 50 employees and expand to 200 once production achieves momentum.

The Japanese group said the move was a response to growing competition in the market and praised Viet Nam s “diligent labour force, robust economy, stable public security and the presence of overseas transport routes”.

The announcement coincides with the ongoing visit to Japan by Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet.
