Providing help and medical treatment to Agent Orange/Dioxin victims and cleaning up dioxin contaminated hotspots were discussed at a workshop in southeastern Dong Nai province on October 19.

The workshop also heard ideas on expanding the work of the Viet Nam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) and conduct scientific research on the impacts of AO/dioxin on human health and the environment.

According to the Viet Nam Association of Victims of Agent Orange, the US army sprayed more than 80 million litres of defoliants, containing nearly 400 kg of the extremely toxic dioxin, in southern Viet Nam between 1961 and 1971.

An estimated 4.8 million Vietnamese people were exposed to dioxin with over 3 million of them being identified as AO victims.
