(ĐN)- The executive board of the Dong Nai Buddhist Sangha held a meeting to review its activities in the first six months of this year in Dong Nai on July 17.
According to a report from the Provincial Executive Board, a large number of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the province have actively participated in charity and social programmes as well as joined in social associations of women, youth and charity organizations and red cross associations at all levels. For the reviewed period, the provincial Buddhist Sangha raised a total of over 4.7 billion VND for charity activities. In addition, the poor patients received free medical check-ups and medicines with a total expenditure of over 2.1 billion VND and 31 houses were built for poor Buddhist followers.
Moreover, afforestation activities, environmental protection and construction of rural roads have been encouraged in pagodas and Zen monasteries in the province.
At the meeting, superior Buddhist monk Thich Thien Khai and superior Buddhist monk Thich Dieu Tam, who were former head and deputy head of the Executive Board of the Provincial Buddhist Sangha respectively, were awarded certificates of merit from the Viet Nam Central Fatherland Front Committee.
