The Ho Chi Minh City Medical Centre on September 2 became the first hospital in the country to put three robots to work at its laboratory, replacing lab technicians.
The three robots, worth a total of US$1.5 million, are able to handle 4,300 tests per hour, equivalent to the work of nearly 20 technicians.
Thanks to the robots, the average waiting time for patients to get their test results is also cut by half, from three hours as previously to 1.5 hours.
In addition, the robots use less blood and chemicals in the tests, helping reduce the cost and the volume of pollutant waste released into the environment.
By September 13, the robots had conducted 66,270 tests.
