Bridges shape Cu Lao Pho's architectural identity

When viewed from above, Cu Lao Pho (Pho Island) in Tran Bien ward, Dong Nai City, resembles a giant bell surrounded by waterways. Despite covering only 695 hectares, the island has six bridges: Rach Cat, Ghenh, Hiep Hoa, An Hao, Buu Hoa and Thong Nhat. Among them, the Rach Cat Bridge is more than 100 years old and was designed and built by the French.

The bridges feature a variety of architectural styles, lending Cu Lao Pho a graceful and distinctive beauty. The historic Rach Cat Bridge has three steel spans: two arched and one box-girder.

The original Ghenh Bridge had five arched spans. After a barge collision 10 years ago left both the bridge and the North-South railway warped and deformed, Vietnam's railway sector redesigned the bridge with three longer spans while retaining its familiar arched form.

Located just over 120 meters from Rach Cat Bridge, Hiep Hoa Bridge is the busiest bridge on Cu Lao Pho. Its large arched span creates a striking feature that further enhances the beauty of the local landscape.
