Summer is often a season filled with travel, enrichment classes and a wide range of recreational activities for children in urban areas. In remote border communes, however, summer has a very different rhythm. There are a few modern playgrounds or bustling entertainment centers. Instead, childhood along the border is enriched by the simple joys of folk games, outdoor activities and the freedom to play in the vast open spaces of the countryside.
During the summer break, local political and social organizations, government agencies and mass organizations organize a variety of meaningful activities for children. These programs help ensure that childhood in the nation's frontier communities remains carefree and joyful, reflected in bright smiles and sparkling eyes amid the lush green mountains and forests under the vibrant summer sun.
