Around 455 workers and people facing difficult circumstances have received free cataract surgery, with more than VND 2 billion in financial support. The figures were announced at the 23rd review ceremony of the free cataract surgery program held at Dong Nai General Hospital in Tam Hiep Ward, Dong Nai City, on August 20.

Specialist Level I Doctor Nguyen Tat Trung, Head of the General Planning Department at Dong Nai General Hospital, said that since 2001, the hospital has partnered with Chang Shin Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Thanh Phu Industrial Park, Tan Trieu Ward, Dong Nai City, to provide cataract surgery for workers and disadvantaged residents in Dong Nai.
From 2001 to 2023, the program successfully provided surgery for 401 patients, with total financial support of nearly VND 1.8 billion. Over the past three years, the program has continued to fund surgery for 54 patients. “The program not only helps improve patients’ vision but also makes it easier for workers and people facing difficult circumstances to carry out daily activities, work, and care for their families. It thereby contributes to improving their quality of life while promoting a sense of social responsibility and solidarity with the community,” Dr. Nguyen Tat Trung emphasized.

The organizations have also worked together to implement a diabetic retinopathy screening program. They have supported the provision of fundus imaging systems to screen for and detect early retinal complications in people with diabetes. These programs have helped improve healthcare for workers and supported people facing difficult circumstances across the city.
