During the program, Assoc. Prof-Dr. Thai Minh Sam, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Urology and Nephrology Association and former Head of Department of Urology at Cho Ray Hospital, alongside the Board of Directors of Dong Nai General Hospital provided a lot of scientific information to help patients and their relatives better understand kidney replacement therapies, especially kidney transplantation. This emphasized the benefits of kidney transplants, patients eligible for the procedure, transplantation process, and important considerations before and after kidney transplants.

Understanding the benefits of kidney transplantation, many parents broke down in tears and registered to donate their kidneys to their children, hoping to open up new opportunities for their children to live.

According to Assoc. Prof-Dr. Thai Minh Sam, a leading expert in kidney transplantation in Vietnam, chronic kidney disease is becoming increasingly common and is on the rise in the community. This is a prolonged progressive disease for which there is currently no complete cure. Therefore, patients need to apply appropriate kidney replacement therapies to maintain life and improve quality of life.

With over 30 years of experience in kidney transplantation, Dr. Sam has directly participated in about 1,500 transplant cases and supported the establishment and development of many kidney transplant centers nationwide. In Dong Nai alone, the number of patients with kidney failure is high, with about 1,500 people undergoing hemodialysis treatment at medical facilities. If treatment relies solely on hemodialysis without strong development of kidney transplantation, it is not yet an optimal solution for patients. All patients with end-stage kidney failure have the right to access kidney transplantation - an effective treatment solution that brings a better quality of life.

The expert highly appreciated the facilities and professional capacity of Dong Nai General Hospital and stated that the Ministry of Health's approval for the hospital to implement kidney transplant techniques is an important step forward, opening up treatment opportunities for many patients in the region. When the first transplant is successfully performed, the hospital's kidney transplant program will gradually develop and bring many practical benefits to patients.

Specialist Doctor Level II Ngo Duc Tuan, Director of Dong Nai General Hospital, shared: Among current kidney replacement therapies, kidney transplantation is considered the optimal solution, helping patients have the opportunity to restore kidney function almost normally, improve quality of life, and reduce the long-term treatment burden.

Recognizing the importance of this technique, over the past 3 years, Dong Nai General Hospital has focused resources on preparing for the implementation of kidney transplantation. The hospital has sent many doctors for in-depth training, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and post-transplant intensive care doctors. At the same time, the hospital has invested in upgrading equipment, medical supplies, infection control systems, and perfecting professional management procedures.

With the support and assistance of leading experts such as Assoc. Prof-Dr. Thai Minh Sam and experts from Cho Ray Hospital, the hospital will strive to perform the first kidney transplant on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of Dong Nai General Hospital operating at its new facility (scheduled for late April 2026). For the first kidney transplant, the hospital is calling on benefactors to completely waive hospital fees for the patient.
