(ĐN)- Dong Nai is currently free of Zika virus cases, but local healthcare network has been placed on high alert because of the high risk of Zika virus outbreaks in the province, Deputy Director Huynh Cao Hai of Health Department said on Nov 9.
Thirty-nine Zika cases have been recorded across Vietnam with 29 patients in HCM City and others in Dak Lak, Binh Duong, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Tra Vinh and Long An provinces.
Dong Nai Department of Health is currently cooperating with relevant agencies to implement measures to prevent and fight Zika virus. Accordingly, the localities in the province were asked to closely monitor the epidemic situation while boosting environmental sanitation and killing mosquito larvae in residential areas, step up communications to raise public awareness of preventive measures.
The Zika virus is caused by a virus transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes. People with Zika virus disease often display symptoms including mild fever, skin rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise or headache. There is a scientific consensus that Zika virus is a cause of microcephaly in newborn babies, Guillain-Barré syndrome and other neurological complications.
