(ĐN)- The numbers of HIV carriers, AIDS patients and AIDS-related deaths in Dong Nai have decreased for the consecutive years in 2015 thanks to great effort in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care.
The achievement was highlighted at a meeting organised by the Department of Health on November 29 in response to the national action month for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in 2015.
In his remarks, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Tri of the provincial People's Committee said HIV/AIDS has remained a major threat to human health across the country in general and the province in particular and a great burden to economic development and security. As of the end-September, more than 4,700 local people have been found living with HIV, of whom 2,200 were died of AIDS.
In the first nine months of this year, Dong Nai has discovered 261 more people living with HIV, 71 of which had progressed to full-blown AIDS while 5 others have died, according to Deputy Director Huynh Cao Hai of Health Department.
The figure saw a decrease of 61 new cases compared to the same period of last year. The number of deaths caused by AIDS also saw a reducing trend in this period.
