Doctors at Thong Nhat General Hospital in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai province have removed 165 broken needles from the left shoulder of a 30-year-old woman from Thong Nhat district.

Five days ago, My was brought to the hospital in an emergency, with a serious wound of 4 cm2 on the left shoulder. The wound was infected and full of pus, with foreign bodies inside.

Doctors performed surgery and took out 165 broken needles.

Mr. Le Van Tan, 60, the patient’s father, said his daughter suffers from schizophrenia. Every day, all of the family members go to work, leaving My home alone. The woman broke the needles and put small pieces of the needles into her left shoulder.

"My family does not know where did she get the needles and when she put them into her shoulder. Only when My complained of pain and the wound got infected did we then take her to the hospital and found out about the needles," the father said.

Her wound has healed.
