In the last four successive years, Vietnam has seen a decline in the number of HIV infected cases and deaths as a result of its successful prevention and control program, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
However, despite these achievements, Deputy PM Phuc pointed out that there is still high risk of an outbreak of the disease as awareness among health workers and the public is still limited and subjective.
Moreover, the commonly known form of HIV transmission has now changed.
The Deputy PM has asked all relevant agencies to raise awareness of the disease so as to fight stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV. He also asked the health sector to increase access to healthcare for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Scientists should work on intervention models most appropriate for HIV prevention within their communities and these models must be shared with provinces in the country.
