Themed “Getting to zero new HIV infections”, the event, held by Dong Nai province’s Youth Union and the provincial HIV/AIDS Prevention Centre, aims to attract the participation of the community in the fight against HIV/AIDS, strengthen the HIV/AIDS prevention systems, expand healthcare, support and treatment services for HIV/AIDS patients and those exposed to the virus, and eliminate discrimination against HIV carriers.
According to the report from the provincial HIV/AIDS Prevention Centre, the total number of people infected with HIV in Dong Nai has reached about 6,200 so far, including 2,500 developed to full-blown AIDS. More than 1,400 people have died of the disease.
