A grand light spectacle on New Year’s Eve

On the Lunar New Year’s Eve 2026, the weather was highly favorable, with clear skies and a cool atmosphere. Thanks to the refreshing river breeze and the newly completed riverside road along the Dong Nai River, thousands of residents comfortably strolled in celebration of spring, savoring the transition between the old and new year. The open space along the riverbank became a giant “grandstand,” allowing people to fully admire the radiant fireworks lighting up the night sky.

Right at the stroke of midnight on the Lunar New Year's Eve, the first high-altitude fireworks were launched, soaring approximately 50 meters into the sky before bursting into a dazzling light spectacle amid cheers from the crowd.

Unlike low-altitude fireworks, which typically reach limited heights and often leave behind thick smoke that obstructs visibility, high-altitude fireworks offered a completely different experience. Brilliant clusters of light rose to higher layers of the sky, blooming with large diameters and vivid clarity, while producing minimal smoke, enabling viewers from a distance to clearly observe every shimmering streak of color.

Many residents commented that this year’s high-altitude fireworks were exceptionally loud and soared impressively high, symbolizing the province’s aspiration to reach new heights. People lingered by the gentle river, exchanging wishes for peace and happiness amid the vibrant melodies of spring.

To begin the year with such radiant joy gives me hope that everything throughout the year will proceed smoothly.”

Expectations for the new year

Amid the crowds flocking to Nguyen Van Tri flower street to admire the floral displays and the high-altitude fireworks, Pham Van Thanh, a Vietnamese American, could not hide his emotion. After 45 years away, this was the first time he had returned to Vietnam to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year and witness the many changes in his birthplace.

Pham Van Thanh shared: “I am truly happy to see the country renewed and modernized, yet still preserving the warmth of family bonds. When I return to the United States, I will tell my children and friends about a developing Vietnam with spacious, modern infrastructure and a people whose living standards are improving day by day.”
