(ĐN)- Chau Hong Thai (Dong Nai) excellently defeated Ho Hoang Hung (Ho Chi Minh City) in the final to claim the championship title in the carom 3-cushion category at Round 1 of the 2025 National Billiards & Snooker Championship.

Round 1 of the 2025 National Billiards & Snooker Championship concluded on the afternoon of April 22 in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, selecting the players advancing to Round 2.
In the 3-cushion carom final, Ho Hoang Hung from Ho Chi Minh City started strong, quickly leading 6-0 after the first 3 turns. However, by the 5th turn, Chau Hong Thai from Dong Nai scored a series of 6 points to take a lead of 7-6. After that, both players competed point by point, alternating between series of 4 and 5 points. But Hong Thai gained a lead of 15-11 in the 10th turn as they entered the break.
Returning from the break, Hoang Hung unexpectedly played explosively, scoring 6 points consecutively in the 11th and 12th turns, including a series of 4 points, regaining the lead 17-15 before Hong Thai after the 13th turn. Despite being closely followed by the Dong Nai player, the player from Ho Chi Minh City consistently scored points, maintaining a lead of 23-21, then 26-21 at the 17th turn. In a tough moment, Hong Thai showed composure, shining at the right time by scoring up to 9 points in 3 turns (from 18 to 20) to secure the ultimate victory.
In addition to the gold medal won by Chau Hong Thai, Dong Nai billiards team also secured a bronze medal as Van Hoang Ba was defeated by Ho Hoang Hung in the semifinals. At the end of Round 1, the billiards competition had 1 player in the carom 1 cushion category and 6 players in the carom 3 cushion category advancing to Round 2 of the 2025 National Billiards & Snooker Championship.
