Top Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh did not secure a place in the second round of the London 2012 Olympics after being defeated by Kashyap Parupalli from India.

The Indian opponent dominated the first set and easily finished it 21-9.

Minh tried hard to even the scoring in the second set but his rival soon gained confidence and earned four successive points to lead 11-7.

This large gap put Minh under tremendous pressure and he could only manage to gain seven points, ultimately losing to Parupalli 14-21.

This was a surprise win for underdog Parupalli, who is ranked 21st in the world, much lower than Minh’s 10th position.

Minh showed his overwhelming advantage against Parupalli in their last encounters before the Summer Games.

He thrashed his opponent 2-0 at the 2011 BWF World Championships, the 2012 US Open Championships and most recently at the 2012 Badminton Swiss Open this July.
