Dong Nai attracted nearly US$1.9 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first eight months of 2026, remaining among the localities with the highest FDI inflows in the country.

The result highlights the continued importance of the FDI sector to economic development. FDI has been channeled mainly into projects to expand the production capacity of existing enterprises and into sectors aligned with the city’s new development orientation.

Dong Nai through investors’ eyes

Dong Nai’s strategic location, transport links and urban infrastructure have made the city an attractive destination for investors. At a working session with the city’s leaders in August, Alexander Ziehe, Chairman of the German Business Association in Vietnam (GBA), said German businesses saw considerable opportunities to improve the business and investment environment in Dong Nai. According to Ziehe, with continued support from the city’s leaders, Dong Nai would become one of the most attractive destinations for investors.

In response to the city’s support for FDI businesses, the GBA Chairman pledged that the association would continue to work closely with the city authorities to contribute to Dong Nai’s development and enhance its competitiveness in the new phase of development.

Sudo Osamu, Deputy Executive Director of Amata VN Public Co., Ltd. of Thailand’s Amata Group, said Dong Nai’s investment environment had continued to improve, with significant progress in a number of areas. Dong Nai is not only adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City and home to major seaports and the soon-to-be-completed Long Thanh International Airport, but is also one of the South’s key industrial and logistics hubs.

In particular, the city has adopted strong policies aimed at sustainable development, with a focus on attracting high-quality FDI projects.

Nguyen Kim Long, Member of the City Party Committee’s Standing Board and Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, said: Depending on the needs of businesses, the city’s management board of industrial parks and economic zones will provide advice and recommend suitable locations in line with the city’s development orientations. This will help businesses gain a clear understanding of investment incentives available in each area, covering such matters as taxation, customs and land rental prices.

Developing special and breakthrough mechanisms and policies

Dong Nai has shifted toward a more selective approach to attracting high-quality, effective and sustainable investment. Under Politburo Resolution No. 16-NQ/TW on the construction and development of Dong Nai through 2035, with a vision to 2065, the city prioritizes investment projects in semiconductors, electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), data, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, clean energy, modern logistics, financial services and innovation, among other fields.

Resolution No. 16 calls for Dong Nai to develop special and breakthrough mechanisms and policies to leverage its strategic position; take the lead in investing in, developing and operating technology infrastructure; attract the world’s leading technology corporations; and promote the digital economy, digital transformation, strategic technology sectors and innovation. The goal is to make Dong Nai one of the country’s leading localities in developing technology infrastructure, data centers, AI, cloud computing, semiconductor manufacturing, quantum technology, biotechnology, new materials, digital infrastructure and innovation, while building a regionally and internationally competitive technology ecosystem.

Therefore, Dong Nai is focusing on developing strategic infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce to attract new-generation FDI, while strengthening the effectiveness of state management of the FDI sector and ensuring a balance of interests among the State, investors and local residents.

Speaking at a meeting with German businesses, Nguyen Kim Long, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, said Dong Nai had been identified as a growth pole of the country and the region. This presents an opportunity for investors to enter Dong Nai early, particularly in sectors that the city has prioritized for investment attraction.

According to Long, many investors are currently exploring the investment environment in Dong Nai. For investment projects eligible for special incentives in industrial parks, registered projects must meet all the criteria required to qualify for these incentives. The Dong Nai Industrial Parks and Economic Zones Authority serves as the focal point for businesses seeking information and exploring investment opportunities in the city. The city’s leaders are always ready to listen to businesses’ views on Dong Nai and its development across various fields through Dong Nai Industrial Parks and Economic Zones Authority.
