Vietnam's agriculture and environment sector posted strong results in the first six months of 2026, according to a report presented at a nationwide online conference held on July 2 to review the sector’s first-half performance and set out tasks for the remainder of 2026.

The conference was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister (Deputy PM) Ho Quoc Dung and Minister of Agriculture and Environment (MoAE) Trinh Viet Hung. At the Dong Nai venue, the meeting was chaired by Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai City People's Committee.

During the first half of 2026, Vietnam completed the digitization of 68.2 million land parcels, equivalent to 68 percent of the national land database, one of the sector’s key priorities for the year. Of these, 34.8 million land parcels met the standards of being accurate, complete, clean and fully operational, making them ready for real-time use in land administration and socio-economic development.

Meanwhile, 20 of the country's 34 provinces and cities restructured the processing of land-related administrative procedures by maximizing the use of the national land database and the national population database. As a result, 46.9 percent of land-related administrative procedures were restructured. More than 2.85 million applications were submitted electronically, with 94.4 percent processed entirely through digital platforms.

Addressing the conference, Deputy PM Ho Quoc Dung stressed that agriculture remains one of Vietnam's key competitive advantages and a pillar of the national economy. Following the merger of ministries, the MoAE now has a significantly broader mandate, being responsible for 17 areas spanning crop production, livestock farming, fisheries, marine affairs, environmental protection, land administration, mineral resources, climate change and disaster prevention and control. Despite mounting global and domestic challenges in the first half of 2026, the sector maintained strong unity and achieved encouraging results. The sector was among the few to meet or exceed most of its assigned targets, with sectoral GDP growth estimated at 3.8 percent and expected to reach 4 percent, exceeding the assigned target.

Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Deputy PM Ho Quoc Dung emphasized that substantial work remains to be done amid ongoing challenges. He called on the MoAE and local authorities to intensify their efforts to fulfill assigned objectives and development targets. He urged the sector to strengthen the management of natural resources and the environment, improve planning, and promptly resolve issues related to construction material quarries and other supply sources to ensure adequate materials for nationally important infrastructure projects, thereby supporting socio-economic growth. He also stressed that agency heads must play a stronger leadership role and take greater responsibility in carrying out assigned tasks.
