On the morning of April 17, Nguyen Kim Long, Member of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Standing Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, chaired a working session with Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Southern Power Corporation, and Dong Nai Power Company on power supply in the first quarter and plans for 2026.

At the meeting, Truong Dinh Quoc, Director of Dong Nai Power Company, reported that in the first quarter of 2026, total electricity output in the province exceeded 5 billion kWh, up more than 5% year-on-year, while electricity savings reached nearly 2.3%. The power sector has ensured a stable electricity supply to support the province’s socio-economic development.

Regarding the 2026 supply plan, Cao Quang Quynh, Member of the Board of Members of the EVN, noted that Dong Nai is a key locality in power supply for the southern region. The infrastructure of power sources and transmission grids, especially 500kV and 220kV substations, has basically met development requirements. However, some 220kV and 110kV substations are operating at full capacity, posing potential risks to supply safety.

In the coming period, as Dong Nai is expected to become a centrally governed city, electricity demand is forecast to continue rising sharply, putting significant pressure on the power system. Although the power sector is implementing several large-scale generation and grid projects in the province, it is still facing difficulties and bottlenecks during implementation.

EVN therefore proposed that the Provincial People’s Committee continue supporting the sector in three key tasks: removing obstacles to accelerate power source and grid projects; effectively implementing electricity-saving measures with a target of 3% savings for the year; and resolving issues related to rooftop solar projects already in operation while encouraging further development under the self-production, self-consumption model to ease pressure on the power system.

At the meeting, project investors also reported difficulties while making recommendations, focusing on issues such as investment capital for rural power grids, compensation and site clearance, planning procedures and investment approvals, and protection of power grid safety corridors.

In his concluding remarks at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman Nguyen Kim Long emphasized that from now to 2030, Dong Nai will accelerate urbanization, leading to a sharp increase in electricity demand. Therefore, ensuring a stable power supply is an urgent requirement, serving both socio-economic development goals and the political and production-business tasks of the electricity sector.

The provincial leader requested the electricity sector to develop power supply solutions suitable for the province's key sectors, fields, and areas, both in the short and long term; prioritizing large urban areas, urban areas calling for investment, operating and upcoming industrial parks, and concentrated livestock farming areas in the North.

At the same time, the power sector was urged to strengthen coordination with departments, agencies, and localities in compensation and site clearance to expedite project progress. The province is expected to issue the K coefficient in April as a basis for compensation plans. The Department of Industry and Trade will coordinate with relevant units to advise the province to direct localities to treat site clearance for power projects as a key, strategic task to ensure energy security for development.
