Efforts intensified to mobilize additional manpower and construction equipment for two packages of Long Thanh Airport Project

To ensure the timely completion of Phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport and its commencement of commercial operations in June 2026, the Ministry of Construction has requested the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to continue directing contractors to mobilize additional manpower and construction equipment, particularly for Packages 4.8 and 5.10. The request was made in the Ministry’s report on the project’s implementation progress submitted to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers in mid-January 2026.

Packages including 5.10, covering the passenger terminal, and 4.8, covering internal traffic works and technical infrastructure, are part of Component Project 3, which includes essential airport facilities. According to the Ministry of Construction, ACV and the contractors have made sustained efforts to ensure progress on these two packages. However, both involve a very large volume of finishing work, particularly the Package 5.10, which relies mainly on manual labor with limited use of machinery and equipment, and therefore still carries a risk of falling behind the adjusted schedule.

Package 4.8 was commenced in November 2024 and, under the signed contract, it is scheduled for completion in September 2026. As of the reporting period in early December 2025, the construction volume, calculated by output value, had reached approximately 45% of the contract value. Of this, progress has been recorded across several major components. Specifically, the technical tunnel system, with a total length of 21.7 km, has completed 19.4 km, equivalent to 91%. Viaduct construction has reached approximately 49%. Internal roads, with a total length of about 42 km, are currently under construction, including subgrade works and multiple base layers, with subgrade construction expected to be completed in February 2026. Drainage culverts for balancing ponds No. 5 and No. 6 have seen more than 12.5 km installed, reaching nearly 70% of the total volume, while the remaining approximately 5.4 km is scheduled for completion in February 2026.

For Package 5.10, the total construction volume of the entire package, calculated by output value, has reached approximately 79% of the contract value. Overall progress is generally in line with the approved schedule, with many key items already completed.

Specifically, construction has been completed on the reinforced concrete structures for underground section and floors 1 through 4; steel roof structures, comprising the central roof area, wing areas, passenger boarding bridge areas, façade support frames, maintenance frames, and roof-edge support frames; as well as the roof layers for the terminal building.

More than 61% of the workload, including wall construction, finishing plaster, waterproofing, painting, tiling, ceiling installation, partitions, interior fit-out, and landscaping, has been completed, with full completion expected before June 30, 2026.

Façade glazing installation has reached nearly 96%. Among them, terminal areas have exceeded 99% completion, while passenger boarding bridge areas have reached nearly 69%, with full completion expected in January 2026.

Installation of mechanical and electrical works has reached nearly 80% completion and is expected for completion in June 2026. Installation of terminal equipment systems, including baggage handling systems, checked-baggage screening systems, aircraft docking guidance systems, elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and passenger boarding bridges, is currently in the fabrication and equipment delivery phase, with overall progress reaching 38%. Installation works are expected to be completed in June 2026.
