Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plant Project is the first cluster of projects in Vietnam to use imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, playing a pioneering role in the roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and realize the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants have a total investment of about 1.4 billion USD, and are the first projects in the LNG (PV Gas) to Power (PV Power) chain in Petrovietnam's energy transition process, aiming to build a modern LNG gas power center model, enhance electricity supply capacity, and contribute to ensuring national energy security in the context of strong energy transition.

With a total capacity of 1,624MW, Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants are expected to supply more than 9 billion kWh per year when operating stably, adding a large-capacity base load power source to the system, especially in the Southern region. The plant cluster plays the role of a flexible power source, supporting system dispatch and balancing in the context of increasing renewable energy proportion.

The project is invested with modern technology, using U.S. firm GE's 9HA.02 gas turbines, which are currently the most advanced, high-capacity, and high-efficiency turbines in the world. As a result, the plant achieves an efficiency of 62-64%, among the highest currently. The 9HA.02 technology meets stringent emission standards and allows flexible fuel switching, from LNG to co-firing with up to 50% hydrogen, moving towards the use of 100% hydrogen in the future.
