Racing to Inaugurate Long Thanh Airport
Phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport has been directed by the Prime Minister to be inaugurated on December 19, 2025. To meet this target, for Component Project 3, which involves the construction of the airport’s essential facilities, contractors are mobilizing the maximum workforce and equipment to accelerate the pace of construction.
According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the project’s investor, nearly 14,000 experts, engineers, and workers, along with more than 3,000 pieces of construction equipment, are being deployed across hundreds of active work fronts to implement 12 contract packages. The goal is to complete the project substantially by December 19, 2025. With strong determination from the contractors, the main contract packages under Component Project 3 of the Long Thanh Airport Project are currently staying on schedule.
For Package 4.7, which covers the aircraft apron, ACV states that the items expected to be completed before December 19, 2025, include the entire structural system of the passenger terminal aircraft apron, underground facilities for ground support equipment, the drainage system, the apron and taxiway guidance-lighting system, and the aircraft apron illumination system.
Meanwhile, Package 4.8, encompassing intra-airport roads and technical infrastructure, has achieved basic completion of the priority tunnel sections, enabling the installation of water supply and drainage systems, electrical systems, ICT systems, and related components. At the same time, key segments, including the main arterial roads connecting to the passenger terminal, service roads to Phase 1 operational areas, control stations, and primary power supply infrastructure, are also scheduled for completion by December 19, 2025.
Regarding Package 5.10, which involves the construction of the passenger terminal and is considered the most critical contract package, the building and architectural works are expected to reach substantial completion by December 19, 2025. Concurrently, works related to the MEPF systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection), ICT systems, and terminal equipment (TE) are being expedited.
The contractor consortium is expected to complete the pulling and power connection for medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear, the installation of busways, low-current cables for the SCS system, fire detectors for the FAS system, air-duct systems, and piping for water supply and drainage by December 19, 2025. The installation of the pipeline network, fire pump systems, and fire suppression systems is also on track to be completed before the project’s inauguration.
Regarding equipment installation at the passenger terminal, mechanical installation of the baggage handling system (BHS), checked-baggage screening systems (HBS), visual docking guidance system (VDGS), escalators and moving walkways (ES/MW), elevators (EL), and other related systems is expected to be completed in December 2025. Additionally, 28 out of 64 passenger boarding bridges at Long Thanh Airport are scheduled for installation by December 19, 2025.
For Component Project 2 – the air traffic management facilities, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), the project investor, has launched a 20-day emulation campaign to complete the project on schedule, ensuring readiness for the technical flight and the completion of all required items by December 19, 2025, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s directive. “The 20-day emulation movement represents the final push to deliver the project on schedule and in line with our commitments” – Le Hoang Minh, Chairman of VATM’s Members’ Council.

Highways and ring roads “race against time” for technical opening
Alongside the Long Thanh Airport Project, the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway and Ring Road 3 – Ho Chi Minh City projects are also classified as national key projects being implemented within the province, with a target of achieving technical opening before December 19, 2025.
According to the Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, for Component Project 1 of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, contractors are currently deploying 30 active work fronts, utilizing more than 250 vehicles and pieces of equipment, along with nearly 500 workers, to carry out the construction. As of now, the total volume of completed work represents almost 60% of the contracted value.
For Component Project 3 of the Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City project, Nguyen Linh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, said that the total value of completed contract packages has exceeded VND 1.1 trillion, accounting for more than 60% of the signed contract value. Contractors are mobilizing maximum workforce and equipment to accelerate progress and complete the project’s technical opening by December 19, 2025, as directed by the Prime Minister.
Nguyen Trong Liem, a technical officer at Construction Joint Stock Company 368, the contractor responsible for Package 32 of Component Project 3, stated that approximately 80% of the assigned package's workload has been completed. The contractor is currently focusing on laying the crushed stone foundation in preparation for asphalt paving. “To ensure the committed schedule, the contractor has mobilized additional vehicles, machinery, equipment, and personnel, organizing construction into three shifts across four teams, to achieve the technical opening before December 19, 2025,” Nguyen Trong Liem said.
