Dong Nai transforms growth model towards sustainability

(ĐN)- Dong Nai is shifting its growth model toward a deeper approach, promoting science and technology application, innovation, enhanced competitiveness, and sustainable development across three pillars: economy, society, and environment. The ultimate goal is to improve the material and spiritual well-being of its people.

According to the Dong Nai People’s Committee, between 2011 and 2023, the province’s economy grew at an average annual rate of 7.06%. In 2023, its GRDP ranked 4th nationwide, and per capita income reached approximately 140 million VND, ranking 7th in the country. Dong Nai also remains one of the top industrial hubs nationwide.

However, high-tech industries currently account for only 2.7–2.9% of total industrial output—far below the 2025 target of 8–10%. The service sector has yet to reach its full potential, with its contribution declining from 23.6% in 2010 to 22.6% in 2022. While agriculture leads the country in livestock production, environmental concerns remain.

Facing these challenges, Dong Nai sees the need to reform its growth model, shifting from extensive to intensive development based on productivity, quality, and efficiency. The province is prioritizing emerging economic models such as the digital economy, green economy, circular economy, and sharing economy.

The upcoming completion and operation of Long Thanh International Airport is expected to create momentum and breakthroughs in the province’s economic model, especially in services and supporting industries.

According to the provincial plan for 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, Dong Nai has identified three key sectors: aerospace industry; semiconductors, chip production, and artificial intelligence; and automation and information technology equipment.

The province will focus on attracting investors with advanced technologies, low labor intensity, improving labor quality, and increasing workers’ incomes. The overall objective is to harmonize economic growth with culture, society, and the environment—toward a higher quality of life and comprehensive human development.
