Regional linkage to promote product consumption

The Southeast region of Vietnam, consisting of six provinces and cities: Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh and HCM city, occupies only 7.1% of the national land area but contributes more than 30% to the country’s GDP.

This region is the largest economic hub in Vietnam, with thriving industries including manufacturing, agriculture, trade and services, and logistics. The range of products made in the region is diverse, covering both industrial and agricultural goods. Over half of these products are exported to more than 200 countries and territories, accounting for 35% of the nation's total export turnover.

However, many industrial and agricultural products from the Southeast region still face difficulties in finding stable markets. To address this, the provinces and cities in the region are making efforts to strengthen regional linkages and expand domestic and international distribution channels. Recently, local authorities have organized numerous trade promotion events to connect domestic and foreign enterprises with local farmers, farms, and cooperatives, aiming to bring products into global supply chains.

Provinces like Dong Nai are actively promoting OCOP products (One Commune One Product program) with traceable origins and certified quality to ensure sustainable market access. Currently, Đồng Nai has more than 200 certified OCOP products, with many others in the process of completing documentation for recognition. The province is also working on establishing planting area codes and processing facilities for key crops such as bananas and durians to boost export opportunities.

Since the beginning of this year, many major global corporations—including Walmart, Amazon, Safeway (USA); Aeon, Uniqlo (Japan); Falabella (Chile); Carrefour, Decathlon (France); and Central Group (Thailand)—have visited the Southeast region to source industrial and agricultural products for their global supply chains. These retailers require products with traceable origins, consistent quality, attractive designs, large volumes, and sustainable production practices. Enterprises that meet these criteria can collaborate with international retail giants. This presents a valuable opportunity for farmers in Đồng Nai and elsewhere in Vietnam to secure better market access.

On average, Dong Nai produces more than 1 million tons of agricultural products annually, with most currently consumed domestically. Partnering with international corporations will help farmers gain stable market outlets, achieve higher prices, and feel more confident about investing in improved productivity and product quality.

Additionally, Dong Nai boasts many traditional craft villages producing specialty goods such as ceramics, wood art, agarwood, mushrooms, rice noodles, vermicelli, and rice paper. These products are highly regarded and hold strong export potential when adapted to meet the standards of specific foreign markets.
