Gov't plans to convert two military airports into civil ones

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 22 signed Decision 1121/QD-TTg establishing a research and evaluation team for converting the Bien Hoa and Thanh Son military airports into civil ones.

Bien Hoa military airport is located in the southern province of Dong Nai and the Thanh Son military airport is in the south-central coast province of Ninh Thuan.

The relevant agencies will survey and evaluate the locations, infrastructure and other conditions related to civil aviation exploitation capacity.

According to the decision, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh was named as the leader of the research and evaluation team.

Vietnam will have 28 airports by 2030 and 31 by 2050, comprising 14 international and 17 domestic ones, according to the Transport Ministry’s airport development plan.
