In addition, head of the management board of the project must attend meetings on the project’s progress every week and general director of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor of the project, was asked to attend these meetings every two weeks and sent reports on the project’s progress to the Ministry of Transport.

The requirement is aimed at speeding up the progress of the project, the local media reported.

According to the Ministry of Transport, despite multiple obstacles in site clearance, the execution of the third component of the project, including the passenger terminal, the cargo terminal and other aviation infrastructure facilities, has showed a positive results.

However, the first, second and fourth components, comprising the head offices of State management agencies, flight control facilities and other items, respectively, have posed a high risk of lagging behind schedule.

Therefore, Minister The asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) to work with the investors of components and make proposals to accelerate the preparation and development of the components.

As for the second component–flight control facilities–the selection of contractors for the consulting package has been two months late, according to the Ministry of Transport. Therefore, the ministry requested the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation to weekly report the progress and propose solutions to start work on the foundations of flight control facilities no later than October and complete the component in December 2024.

Regarding the fourth component–other items–the Ministry of Transport required the management board of the project to review and reschedule the general progress and the progress of specific items, taking into account the unfavorable weather and coming up with solutions to the issue.

The ACCV head must work with the relevant agencies, especially the Dong Nai government, to complete bidding procedures to choose investors for the component.

Meanwhile, ACV was assigned to direct domestic and foreign consultants to accelerate their jobs. ACV will closely work with the Long Thanh District government to receive the cleared site for the project, ensuring the progress of the project.

The Government approved the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project with an estimated investment of nearly US$4.6 billion. The project includes four components and was expected to be completed in early 2025.

However, after a year, the ground leveling has yet to be conducted, posing a high risk of the slow progress of the project. Only the bomb and mine detection and disposal as well as the construction of the surrounding fence have been completed.
