Addressing at the meeting, Chairman Huynh Van Toi affirmed that the provincial Fatherland Front Committee has made efforts to popularise State and Party policies to all people, contributing to successfully fulfill the province’s socio-economic targets in this period.
According to report of the provincial People’s Committee, Dong Nai recorded an economic growth rate of 7.52 percent in the Jan-March, higher than the nation's average of 0.14 percent. Its GDP growth for the first three months of this year is higher than that of previous years with its stable industrial production value, while production value of agriculture - forestry - fishery sector up some 2.7 percent to more than VND8.8 trillion.
In the reviewed period, the province also earned US$4.3 billion from export, up 12.3 percent over the same period last year, reported the provincial Department of Planning and Investment.
Cao Tien Dung, Head of the Department, attributed the province’s high export revenue in the first quarter to long-term orders that local firms won earlier, as well as the recovering domestic and global economy and expanded export markets.
A surge was seen in major products of the province, including footwear, garment and textile, computers, electronic spare part, machines.
Director Duong Minh Dung of Department of Industry and Trade said that Dong Nai enjoyed a trade surplus of over US$400 million in the first three months with export turnover rose 12.3 percent. The consumer price index (CPI) grew over 3 percent in this period compared to the same period last year. Accordingly, the department will continue efforts to stabilise prices of essential goods and curb inflation at a low level in the coming time.
In Jan-March, Dong Nai’s tourism areas attracted more than 1 million visitors and earned over VN340 billion.
The province solved jobs for some 19,000 laborers, fulfilling 24 percent of the yearly plan. Most of them were employed by local enterprises. Moreover, more than 12,800 laborers received vocational training and over 4,200 laid-off workers have been approved to receive unemployment benefits in this period.
Nearly 1,700 poor and near-poor households got preferential loans to develop production, improving their income.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Dinh Quoc Thai stressed that further efforts should be done in coming time to focus on key projects, including important traffic infrastructure projects. Dong Nai is now deploying more than 1,400 projects.
Secretary Nguyen Phu Cuong suggested related departments and agencies make solutions to quickly remove Bien Hoa 1 industrial park and speed up the land reclaimation and compensation for the construction of the Long Thanh International Airport.
He also called on the authorities and the whole society to join hands with the education sector to improve education quality, which he described as key for the locality's sustainable development. Currently, the province is planning to build additional schools meeting national standards.
