(ĐN)- Building new-style rural areas has been a top priority of Dong Nai province to achieve sustainable development over the past years.
Thanks to the locality’s great effort, 39 of its communes were recognized as new-style rural areas in 2015.
Since the new rural construction campaign began five years ago, 91 communes and 3 districts of Dong Nai have met countryside development criteria.
In the 2011-2015 period, Dong Nai mobilized over VND176 trillion to develop agriculture and build new rural areas. Of the total, some 10.6 percent was sourced from the State while the remaining was contributed by local residents and enterprises.
Many locals volunteered to donate land, money and work hours for the construction of rural roads in the locality.
According to the evaluation of central delegations of the National Target Programme on New Rural Area Construction, after five years of implementation, the province’s rural areas have seen active and significant changes.
The locality has made marked progress in agricultural production restructuring, as it has worked hard to switch to better crops and develop large-scale farms of vegetables and fruits that produce high-quality and safe products.
Income per capita of rural areas is currently VND36 million per year, nearly VND14 million higher than the average four years ago.
The province aims to have 80 percent of all communes across the province meeting all new-style rural area criteria by the end of 2020, increase average per-capita income in rural areas to VND60 million per year, and reach an average agricultural output value of over VND131 million per hectare per year.
