(ĐN)- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer financial aid for second phase of Nhon Trach water plant. This is expected to accelerate the completion of fresh-water supply system in Dong Nai province.
The first phase of Nhon Trach water plant became operational in April of this year with a capacity of 100,000 cu.m per day. It supplies clean water to communes in Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts.
The plant's second phase is scheduled to start construction in 2017 and able to process 100,000 cubic meters a day. The project is estimated to cost US$165 million, 85 percent of the total comes from JICA.
Site clearance and compensation for the project has basically been completed. Accordingly, it is expected that the project will be fulfilled on schedule.
Dong Nai Water Supply Company (Dowaco) has so far met requirements assigned by JICA and pledged to speed up the project.
JICA will not only provide capital sources but also help local authorities gain effective management experience from Japan.
Mr. Taro Katsurai, JICA’s representative, said that if the second phase is implemented smoothly, he would suggest the JICA continue to provide financial aid for the third phase of the plant.
