Rice output expected to reach over 331,000 tonnes in 2011

(ĐN)- Dong Nai’s rice production output is estimated at more than 331,000 tones in 2011, an increase of nearly 6,000 tonnes over last year, according to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

However, the rice cultivation area in the province this year dropped by about VND 1,400 hectares compared to the previous year.

Farmer Loc in Tri An commune, Vinh Cuu district achieves a yield of almost 7 tons per hectare per harvest

Thanks to cultivation of high yielding varieties and advanced farming practices, rice yield in Dong Nai in 2011 is nearly 4.8 tons per hectare per harvest on average, an increase of almost 200 kg over last year. Especially, the new rice varieties have helped farmers in Vinh Cuu and Cam My districts Long Khanh town achieve a yield of 7-8 tons per hectare per crop.
