(ĐN)- According to the statistics by the Dong Nai branch of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), credit growth in foreign currencies decreased sharply in the first five months of this year. Particularly, the outstanding loans in the dollar of Dong Nai based banks by late May were estimated at over VND9.5 trillion, increased by over 7 percent compared with the beginning of the year against an increase of over 30 percent in the same period last year.

By the end of May, the foreign currency loans accounted for just 18.15 percent of the total outstanding loans of the whole banking system in Dong Nai.

The central bank has issued a legal document on tightening loans in foreign currencies. The move is designed to reduce the pressure that foreign currencies put on the economy and help curb inflation and stabilise the macro economy.
